This drive won the Lifewire reviews for best DVD drives in 2019. It is fast, and capable of what appears to be reading and writing all major standards, including the special M-DISC media that lasts 1000+ years. And of course it works like an ordinary CD drive too.

If you plan on burning a lot of DVD's then one thing you should know is that an 8x drive writes very slowly. This drive on the other hand gets the job done 3 times faster.

If you're looking for a similar deal in a portable USB DVD drive, then here's one, a bit slower yet otherwise all the same great features: GP65NB60.

The prices on both these drives keep falling, and there's a reason. BluRay compatibility is turning into a bigger thing, and these drives are not BluRay compatible. If you don't need BluRay, then nothing beats the choices above. They are super fast, super reliable, read and write compatible with all the other standards, super cheap, and therefore an unbeatable value. But if you do need a good BluRay drive then you should make your selection based on that instead.
