Thumb drives are the most convenient way to move data from PC to PC without networking. In most cases low price and reliability are desired. However, if you are moving a lot of data then speed is also important. We offer two products (below), our best picks in both categories.

It is also important to note that the default format on nearly all thumb drives is FAT32, which is outdated and will limit file sizes to 4GB each. You should only leave these drives on their default format if you wish to plug them into very very old computers. For everyone else it is vastly better to go with exFAT or NTFS. In most cases exFAT will do better than NTFS, especially on flash drives. And exFAT is more private because it does not generate any metadata.

What all this means is that when you take the thumb drive out of the packaging, the first thing you should do is format it to either exFAT or NTFS. Then you won't be stuck with a 4GB file size limit.
