The RAM on this board is the SODIMM version of DDR4, which is far smaller and thinner, to save space in smaller computers. There is a stereotype that this is slower than the ordinary UDIMM version of DDR4. This is because of all the compromises made in the past with laptop memory. But in this case the speed is the same. It is only smaller.

It does not include the ever-important 16 lane PCIe slot, which means you cannot add a high-end 3rd party GPU. This is not a problem if you are good sticking with Intel's iGPU. If you're not sure about this then check out our PC Tips. The best way to get ahead on this is to buy a 4K monitor that makes use of what's called a DisplayPort connector, because through DisplayPort, Intel's iGPU on this board delivers a full 4K at 60Hz refresh - and that's really quite good. Where it may not be good enough is when playing a high performance game with textures. Most other uses Intel's iGPU works great. And it does wonders for making the computer smaller.

It is also limited to just 2 SATA3 connectors, and just 32GB RAM. For nearly everyone those limitations are plenty. Today you can put 16TB on each SATA3. And hardly anything needs more than 32GB RAM.

It also includes two high-speed M.2 connectors. And one of them works quite eloquently with Adata's NVMe SSD, which is about 5x faster than a normal SSD, and about 20x faster than a hard drive. Plus Adata has gone all out on value by providing their own separate 5 year warranty, and super low pricing. What a combination. For many, this will be a perfect combination of features. In fact the NVMe technology is so hot that in some circles the SATA3 port is no longer desired. They only make use of the M.2.

This motherboard happens to also include a special moisture-resistant coating targeted mostly for harsh industrial uses.

And it is both 8th and 9th gen Coffee Lake compatible. In fact it will handle the world's most powerful consumer grade CPU: the i9-9900.

Believe it or not, this tiny board is so powerful and so stable that it is going into a variety of industrial and remote servers.

There's no ECC capability, but ECC really isn't what everyone thinks it is. There's a software workaround that trumps it.

The reason the H310 chipset is significant, is that it predates Microsoft's landmark deal to get CPU manufacturer's to cut off older operating systems. In other words, this chipset makes possible running Windows 7 (or Other PC OS) on any Coffee Lake CPU, even Coffee Lake Refresh, and even the i9-9900 (the world's fastest consumer CPU). That's a real mind-bender, and likely behind some of the motivation to use this board in servers. And this is significant in that you now have an upgrade path for your Windows 7 machines, so that you are no longer forced into Windows 10 just to stay current with hardware.
